Plumber in Smoke Rise, GA
We provide reliable plumbing services in Smoke Rise, GA, helping homeowners fix leaks, clogs, and repairs quickly and efficiently.
Smoke Rise homes sit on some of the largest lots in Metro Atlanta, tucked under old-growth hardwoods in the Stone Mountain foothills. That setting is part of why people move here. It is also why plumbing problems in this community look different from newer subdivisions across DeKalb County. Plumbing Express is a licensed plumber in Smoke Rise, GA, and we understand the specific pipe materials, soil conditions, and water system challenges that affect homes in the 30087 ZIP code. Our W-2 plumbing technicians have served this area since 2007 with upfront pricing, guaranteed work, and same-day availability for urgent calls.
Smoke Rise was developed in the 1960s as an upscale residential community in what is now the City of Tucker. Around 2,000 homes spread across more than ten neighborhoods, most on lots of an acre or more. The original stock consists of brick-front ranches and split-levels. Later decades added traditional homes in the 1970s and 1980s, and recent new construction including modern farmhouses. Each era brought different pipe materials, and many are now well past their expected service life.

Galvanized Steel Pipe Replacement in 1960s Homes
Builders throughout the 1940s to early 1960s used galvanized steel for residential water supply lines. The original Smoke Rise ranches and split-levels fall squarely in that window. Galvanized pipe has a useful life of roughly 40 to 50 years, so every original supply line in Smoke Rise passed that mark decades ago.
As the zinc coating erodes, steel corrodes underneath. Rust narrows the pipe, choking water pressure. Brown or rust-colored water at the faucet in the morning, or flow that slows to a trickle upstairs while a lower fixture runs, are classic signs of galvanized failure.
Our whole-home repipe service removes the old system and installs modern piping throughout the house. The process is turn-key: we handle the plumbing, sheetrock repair, and computer-matched paint. Most jobs finish in two to three days with a 30-year warranty on all materials. Request a free repipe estimate for your Smoke Rise home.

Cast Iron Drain Pipe Repair and Replacement
Homes built before the mid-1970s commonly used cast iron for drain, waste, and vent lines. In Smoke Rise, that covers the entire original housing stock. Cast iron corrodes from both inside and out over decades. Hydrogen sulfide gas in normal waste flow creates sulfuric acid inside the pipe. Acidic Georgia clay attacks from the exterior. After 50 to 60 years, cast iron drains develop scale buildup, hairline cracks, and full-section failures.
Warning signs include slow drains throughout the house, gurgling sounds, sewage odors, and wet spots in the yard near the sewer lateral. Our camera line inspection shows exactly where the damage starts. We record the footage so you see the condition yourself.
When sections fail, we replace the cast iron with PVC. For full lateral failures, we coordinate sewer line replacement from the house to the county connection. We also handle cast iron repipe work for homes that need the entire drain system replaced.

Polybutylene and Copper Pipe Issues in Later Additions
Not every Smoke Rise home dates to the 1960s. Subdivisions like Mountain Creek (built around 1972), portions of Brentwood, and neighborhoods added in the late 1970s through 1990s may contain polybutylene water lines. This gray or blue plastic pipe was installed across Georgia from 1978 to 1995 and fails when chlorine in the municipal supply degrades the pipe walls.
Check under sinks and near the water heater for flexible pipe stamped “PB2110.” Finding that marking means a polybutylene replacement should be on your short list. Insurance carriers may restrict coverage on homes with polybutylene still in service.
Copper supply lines from the same era can develop pinhole leaks. DeKalb County draws its water from a single source, the Chattahoochee River, and treats it at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant. Thin-wall copper installed in the 1970s and 1980s is vulnerable to this treated water over time. Our leak detection team uses thermal imaging and acoustic equipment to find hidden leaks. When damage is widespread, a copper repipe prevents future failures and restores pressure.

Drain Cleaning and Sewer Service for Wooded Lots
Smoke Rise’s large wooded lots with mature hardwoods and pines create a persistent challenge for sewer laterals. Tree roots enter clay and cast iron pipes through joints, cracks, and corroded sections, then grow until they block the line.
Our drain cleaning crews start every job with a video inspection to identify the problem. Options include mechanical cable cleaning, hydrojetting to scour pipe walls clean, and full sewer line repair when the pipe has collapsed. Hydrojetting works well on Smoke Rise properties because the high-pressure water cuts through root masses and removes cast iron scale buildup.
For emergency sewer backups, our emergency drain service team responds quickly. Split-level floor plans common in Smoke Rise put lower-level bathrooms and laundry rooms at highest risk during a main line blockage.

Water Heater Installation, Repair, and Maintenance
A standard tank water heater lasts 8 to 12 years. Many original Smoke Rise homes are on their fourth or fifth unit, and sediment from the DeKalb County water supply shortens that lifespan further. Rumbling sounds, lukewarm output, and rusty hot water all indicate the unit needs attention.
We install and service tank water heaters and Rinnai tankless systems. A tankless unit delivers hot water on demand and eliminates standby energy loss. For larger Smoke Rise homes with multiple bathrooms, a tankless system handles simultaneous demand better than a single 50-gallon tank. We manage the installation, gas line connection, and venting in one visit.
For water heater repair needs, we service all major brands and carry common parts for same-day fixes. Annual water heater maintenance like flushing the tank and testing the pressure relief valve extends equipment life.

General Plumbing Repairs for Every Room
Our general plumbing team handles everyday issues across Smoke Rise homes.
Toilets. Toilet repair, toilet installation, and clogged toilet service for all brands.
Faucets. Faucet repair and faucet installation for kitchens, bathrooms, and utility sinks.
Garbage disposals. Disposal repair and installation when a unit jams or leaks.
Sump and ejector pumps. Split-level homes rely on these to protect lower levels. We offer sump pump installation, sump pump repair, and ejector pump services.

Water Line and Gas Line Services
Underground water line repairs are common in Smoke Rise, where galvanized or aging copper service lines run from the DeKalb County main to the house. A wet patch in the yard, high water bills, or a sudden pressure drop often points to a cracked service line.
We also perform gas line repair and gas line installation for ranges, dryers, fire pits, grills, and generators. Our gas line services cover every step from permit to final pressure test.

Service couldn’t be completed due to needing a new system. We appreciate the very informative visit as well as insight that could help after a new unit install.
Plumbing Express was great. I had a failed sump pump that had partially overflowed into the basement. Nasty. Josh was the tech that did the work. He was efficient, neat and courteous. I will use Plumbing Express if I have any other plumbing needs and I will recommend them to my family and friends.
The technician was very knowledgeable and professional. I believe they did a very good job.
Ron was our second plumber from this company. The first plumber came, examined pipes and said he found no leak, even though we had experiences a large amount of water leaking from the ceiling in the finished basement. Several days later we had another leak-same area but less water the second time. Ron came in, listened to our frustration and did a more thorough inspection of the pipes and identified the problem. He was very personable and professional. On his third visit, we had several replacement pipes installed and are without leaks again. Our frustration, with the situation, was my son had used your company to replace pipes when he purchased the home and founding out not all the pipes were included with that process.
Tim arrived on time and was very professional. He took his time to explain the problem and the process it would take fix the water line.
Called Plumbing Express as tankless hot water not operating. Their website states "Get Free Plumbing Quote ". When service man showed up an looked at unit he said there would be a $207 charge to look into unit in order to give me a quote to fix unit. Due to not having hot water and time required to get another company to address the problem I agreed to pay $207 for quote. After looking in unit I was told he would not be able to fix due to age of unit and parts not available. I think he should have said parts not available when seeing model number on front of unit and I would not have wasted $207.
Outstanding customer service, we will definitely be using them in the future for any plumbing needs. Can’t thank them enough!
Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. The team was excellent. The job was completed in 1 day with a great team. Very expressive.
Daniel Perez was great in coming out to check the problem I had with a water leak from my air conditioner line. His recommendation was correct.
Great and informative service while I was in a bind without a functioning water heater.
Plumbing Express is my go-to plumbing support team. They have fair pricing, well-vetted technicians, and a truly exceptional scheduling system. Rod, my technician, was the best. He quickly assessed the problem and gave a fair estimate, working hard to keep to the schedule. He even brought Josh along on the day of service, and the two of them worked well together. They addressed the bathtub drain repair with expertise and caused the least sheetrock damage. It was difficult to replace the broken pipe and get to the upstairs drain, but together they made it a success.
Daniel did a great job and was very professional during his service call last week!
Rod and Josh did an awesome job taking care of my clogged sinks. Knowledgable, professional and great to work with - I really appreciated their help today and would highly recommend them and Plumbing Express!
Daniel was excellent. The work he did was simply superb. I highly recommend your company and hopefully Daniel will get more and more work
Dylan from Plumbing Express came over and replaced our garbage disposal for us. It was older, had a massive leak, and needed to be replaced. He did a great job and was in and out in about 30 minutes! I also asked him to check out a potential leak I had been hearing in my ceiling. He used a thermal camera to investigate and was very honest and upfront about what he found. Rather than immediately cutting into the drywall to confirm something uncertain, he explained that the sound could simply be pipes expanding and that opening the wall might be unnecessary. He recommended monitoring the area and waiting to see if a wet spot appears, which would clearly indicate an actual leak. I really appreciated that he didn’t try to upsell or push unnecessary work. Overall, great service and a great guy. They will definitely be our go-to plumbing service from now on.
Once again we had some problems under our kitchen sink so we called Plumbing Express who were able to get us on their schedule pretty quickly after these storms Tim Robinson came out to do the job. Tim has been to our house for a number of different plumbing problems. He is personable & professional. As usual he did a great job even though this particular problem turned out to be far more difficult than anyone had expected. As frustrating as it was, Tim worked through it until he finished the job. We can't thank him enough.
Anthony was very competent, professional and friendly. He answered all my questions throughly. Highly recommend!
