Plumber in Idlewood, GA

We provide reliable plumbing services in Idlewood, GA, helping homeowners fix leaks, clogs, and repairs quickly and efficiently.

Idlewood is a residential neighborhood in the Tucker area of DeKalb County, centered along Idlewood Road between Brockett Road and E Ponce de Leon Avenue. The neighborhood sits just minutes from I-285 and Highway 78, which puts our office a short drive away. Homes here range from original 1940s and 1950s bungalows to 1960s brick ranches, 2004 townhomes at Idlewood Parc, and new construction built as recently as 2023 at Idlewood Station. That eight-decade spread of housing creates a wide range of plumbing conditions, and our team has worked with every one of them.

Plumbing Express has served Metro Atlanta since 2007 with over 35 years of combined experience. Our 4.9-star rating backed by 1,999+ reviews tells you what your neighbors already know: we treat every home with care and stand behind every repair.

Plumbing Problems Common in Idlewood Homes

Idlewood’s housing stock spans from pre-World War II builds to brand-new construction in the 30084 ZIP code. Each generation of home brings a different set of plumbing risks. Here is what our plumbers find most often in this part of Tucker.

Galvanized steel pipe corrosion

The oldest homes along Idlewood Road were built in the 1940s and 1950s with galvanized steel water supply lines. After 70 to 80 years of service, these pipes corrode from the inside. Mineral deposits narrow the opening, water pressure drops at every fixture, and rusty brown water appears when you first turn on the tap. The only lasting fix is a full home repipe with modern PEX-A or copper piping.

Cast iron drain line deterioration

Homes built in the 1950s and 1960s were plumbed with cast iron sewer and drain pipes. After 60 to 70 years, these pipes corrode from the inside, develop cracks, and can collapse under soil weight. Signs include slow drains throughout the house, gurgling sounds from toilets, and sewage odors near floor drains or cleanouts. We inspect these lines with a sewer camera and recommend repair or full sewer line replacement based on what we find.

Polybutylene pipe failures

Renovations completed between 1978 and 1995 often added polybutylene water lines to older Idlewood homes. This gray plastic pipe reacts with chlorine in DeKalb County’s treated water and breaks down over time. Pinhole leaks, cracked fittings, and burst pipes follow. We specialize in polybutylene replacement and can swap the entire system in two to three days.

Mixed plumbing in renovated homes

Idlewood has seen a wave of full renovations as buyers update older properties. Some remodels keep portions of the original galvanized or copper plumbing while adding new PEX lines. That patchwork creates weak points at transition fittings where dissimilar metals meet. Our plumbers trace the full system, identify the weak links, and recommend targeted repairs or a complete repipe.

Tree root intrusion

dlewood’s mature oaks, pines, and hardwoods send root systems toward sewer and drain lines in search of moisture. Roots enter through hairline cracks or loosened joints, then grow until they block the pipe. We clear roots with hydrojetting and inspect the line with a camera to determine whether sewer drain replacement is needed.

Slab leaks

Many of Idlewood’s single-story ranch homes sit on concrete slab foundations. Water supply lines beneath the slab can develop leaks from soil shifting, pipe corrosion, or friction against the concrete. Warning signs include warm spots on floors, the sound of running water with all fixtures off, and an unexplained jump in your water bill. Our slab leak detection service pinpoints the exact location without tearing up your floors.

Plumbing Services We Provide in Idlewood

One call covers every plumbing need in your home. Here is what we bring to your door.

Repairs and Installations

Our trucks carry common parts so most repairs finish in a single visit. We handle faucet repair, faucet installation, toilet repair, toilet installation, leak repair, leak detection, garbage disposal repair, and water line repair.

A slow kitchen drain or a toilet that backs up after rain points to a deeper blockage. Our drain cleaning team goes beyond basic snaking. We use hydrojetting to scour pipe walls and a camera to confirm the line is clear. For cracked or collapsed lines, we handle full sewer line installation. Emergency drain service runs 24/7.

Repiping is our specialty. We remove failing galvanized, polybutylene, or aging copper systems and replace them with PEX-A or CPVC. Our repipe process is turn-key: new pipes installed, drywall patched, and computer-matched paint applied. Most Idlewood homes are finished in two to three days. Every repipe includes a 30-year warranty on materials. Request your free repipe quote to get started.

We install and repair both tank water heaters and tankless systems. Whether your unit is leaking from the base or you want to upgrade to an energy-efficient tankless model, our plumbers size the system to your household and complete the work the same day.

Gas line installation and gas line repair for stoves, dryers, fireplaces, outdoor grills, and gas water heaters. All gas work meets DeKalb County code and passes inspection.

Plumbing Express was great. I had a failed sump pump that had partially overflowed into the basement. Nasty. Josh was the tech that did the work. He was efficient, neat and courteous. I will use Plumbing Express if I have any other plumbing needs and I will recommend them to my family and friends.

Ron was our second plumber from this company. The first plumber came, examined pipes and said he found no leak, even though we had experiences a large amount of water leaking from the ceiling in the finished basement. Several days later we had another leak-same area but less water the second time. Ron came in, listened to our frustration and did a more thorough inspection of the pipes and identified the problem. He was very personable and professional. On his third visit, we had several replacement pipes installed and are without leaks again. Our frustration, with the situation, was my son had used your company to replace pipes when he purchased the home and founding out not all the pipes were included with that process.

Called Plumbing Express as tankless hot water not operating. Their website states "Get Free Plumbing Quote ". When service man showed up an looked at unit he said there would be a $207 charge to look into unit in order to give me a quote to fix unit. Due to not having hot water and time required to get another company to address the problem I agreed to pay $207 for quote. After looking in unit I was told he would not be able to fix due to age of unit and parts not available. I think he should have said parts not available when seeing model number on front of unit and I would not have wasted $207.

Plumbing Express is my go-to plumbing support team. They have fair pricing, well-vetted technicians, and a truly exceptional scheduling system. Rod, my technician, was the best. He quickly assessed the problem and gave a fair estimate, working hard to keep to the schedule. He even brought Josh along on the day of service, and the two of them worked well together. They addressed the bathtub drain repair with expertise and caused the least sheetrock damage. It was difficult to replace the broken pipe and get to the upstairs drain, but together they made it a success.

Dylan from Plumbing Express came over and replaced our garbage disposal for us. It was older, had a massive leak, and needed to be replaced. He did a great job and was in and out in about 30 minutes! I also asked him to check out a potential leak I had been hearing in my ceiling. He used a thermal camera to investigate and was very honest and upfront about what he found. Rather than immediately cutting into the drywall to confirm something uncertain, he explained that the sound could simply be pipes expanding and that opening the wall might be unnecessary. He recommended monitoring the area and waiting to see if a wet spot appears, which would clearly indicate an actual leak. I really appreciated that he didn’t try to upsell or push unnecessary work. Overall, great service and a great guy. They will definitely be our go-to plumbing service from now on.

Tim has been to our house for a number of different plumbing problems. He is personable & professional. As usual he did a great job even though this particular problem turned out to be far more difficult than anyone had expected. As frustrating as it was, Tim worked through it until he finished the job. We can't thank him enough.

Frequently Asked Questions About Idlewood Plumbing Services

How do I know if my Idlewood home needs repiping?

Warning signs include rusty or discolored water, recurring leaks, reduced water pressure, and visible corrosion on exposed pipes. Homes constructed between 1978 and 1995 with polybutylene plumbing face elevated risk. If you’re dealing with multiple plumbing problems or your home has aging pipe materials, schedule an on-site assessment to evaluate your system’s condition.

What causes most drain clogs in residential properties?

Hair, soap scum, grease, and food particles account for most household clogs. Tree roots growing into sewer lines also create serious blockages in established neighborhoods. Regular drain maintenance and keeping grease out of kitchen sinks prevents most obstructions.

How long does a whole-house repipe take?

Most residential repipes require two to five days depending on home size, pipe accessibility, and drywall repair scope. Our team coordinates each phase to reduce disruption to your daily schedule and includes all necessary wall repairs within the project.

Should I choose a tankless or tank water heater?

Tank water heaters cost less initially and perform well for most households. Tankless units carry higher upfront costs but deliver unlimited hot water and typically last longer. Your decision depends on household size, hot water usage habits, available installation space, and budget. Our team can evaluate your situation and recommend the right fit.

What should I do if I smell gas in my home?

Exit the home immediately without touching light switches, phones, or anything that could generate a spark. Once you’re safely outside, contact your gas utility company and a licensed plumber. Gas leaks demand immediate response from trained professionals with proper equipment.

How often should I have my drains professionally cleaned?

Annual drain cleaning stops buildup that leads to clogs and backups. Homes with larger families, older plumbing, or trees near sewer lines may need more frequent service. Camera inspections show the actual state of your lines and help determine the appropriate maintenance schedule.

Does Plumbing Express offer financing for major plumbing work?

Yes. We recognize that repiping and other substantial plumbing projects represent significant investments. Financing options allow you to address pressing plumbing needs without straining your budget. Ask about current programs when you schedule your consultation.
