Home Repiping in Smyrna, Georgia
We’re whole-home repipe specialists serving Smyrna, Vinings, and the surrounding Cobb County area. The Smyrna homes we repipe almost always come down to one of three failing materials: copper with pinhole leaks, polybutylene that’s reached end of life, or first-generation PEX with failing fittings. Each one has a distinct failure pattern, and each calls for a different conversation about what to replace it with, what we see most often, how we fix it, and what it costs.

Why Smyrna Homes End Up Needing a Repipe
Smyrna’s housing stock is unusually mixed a 1960s ranch can sit next door to a 2015 townhome and the right answer to “do I need a repipe” depends almost entirely on which of three materials is in your walls.
Copper with pinhole leaks (Smyrna’s older custom and mid-century homes). Copper was the dominant supply material in Smyrna from the 1960s through the late ’70s, and a lot of homes in still have the original copper. The classic symptom is a small leak that shows up as a stain on a ceiling or a damp spot at a wall, and then another one, three months later, in a different room. Once a home starts producing pinhole leaks, the failures usually keep coming, because the underlying cause (water chemistry, electrolysis, or pipe-wall thinning) affects every copper run in the house. Spot repairs stop making economic sense fast.
Polybutylene at end of life (1978–1995 subdivisions). If your home was built or re-plumbed between roughly 1978 and 1995, there’s a chance the water lines are polybutylene: usually grey with copper crimp rings or grey acetal fittings. Polybutylene fails from the inside out, often without warning, and is widely flagged on home inspection reports. Most lenders and insurers in Cobb County treat it as a known liability, which is why we get a lot of polybutylene repipe calls tied to a Smyrna home sale.
First-generation PEX with failing fittings (late-’90s through ~2010). Newer Smyrna construction in is typically plumbed in PEX but the earliest generations of PEX, especially when paired with brass fittings containing high-zinc alloys, are now reaching the age where the fittings corrode and start to weep. The fittings fail before the pipe does. If your home is 15–25 years old and you’re seeing leaks at manifolds or behind fixtures, this is usually what’s going on.
Slab-on-grade homes anywhere in Smyrna. When copper or polybutylene fails under a slab, the fix is almost always to abandon the slab line and reroute through the attic or walls. We do these reroutes as part of a full or partial repipe.
How a Plumbing Express Repipe Works
Every Smyrna repipe we do follows the same phases:
- Free in-home assessment. A licensed plumber walks the home for an assessment and goes over the materials and answers any questions you may have.
- Pipe replacement. Most Smyrna repipes take [2–4] days. Water is shut off at the meter and restored at the end of the day.
- Drywall patch and paint match. We include this in the quoted price; you shouldn’t be left coordinating a separate drywall contractor.

Service couldn’t be completed due to needing a new system. We appreciate the very informative visit as well as insight that could help after a new unit install.
Plumbing Express was great. I had a failed sump pump that had partially overflowed into the basement. Nasty. Josh was the tech that did the work. He was efficient, neat and courteous. I will use Plumbing Express if I have any other plumbing needs and I will recommend them to my family and friends.
The technician was very knowledgeable and professional. I believe they did a very good job.
Ron was our second plumber from this company. The first plumber came, examined pipes and said he found no leak, even though we had experiences a large amount of water leaking from the ceiling in the finished basement. Several days later we had another leak-same area but less water the second time. Ron came in, listened to our frustration and did a more thorough inspection of the pipes and identified the problem. He was very personable and professional. On his third visit, we had several replacement pipes installed and are without leaks again. Our frustration, with the situation, was my son had used your company to replace pipes when he purchased the home and founding out not all the pipes were included with that process.
Tim arrived on time and was very professional. He took his time to explain the problem and the process it would take fix the water line.
Called Plumbing Express as tankless hot water not operating. Their website states "Get Free Plumbing Quote ". When service man showed up an looked at unit he said there would be a $207 charge to look into unit in order to give me a quote to fix unit. Due to not having hot water and time required to get another company to address the problem I agreed to pay $207 for quote. After looking in unit I was told he would not be able to fix due to age of unit and parts not available. I think he should have said parts not available when seeing model number on front of unit and I would not have wasted $207.
Outstanding customer service, we will definitely be using them in the future for any plumbing needs. Can’t thank them enough!
Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. The team was excellent. The job was completed in 1 day with a great team. Very expressive.
Daniel Perez was great in coming out to check the problem I had with a water leak from my air conditioner line. His recommendation was correct.
Great and informative service while I was in a bind without a functioning water heater.
Plumbing Express is my go-to plumbing support team. They have fair pricing, well-vetted technicians, and a truly exceptional scheduling system. Rod, my technician, was the best. He quickly assessed the problem and gave a fair estimate, working hard to keep to the schedule. He even brought Josh along on the day of service, and the two of them worked well together. They addressed the bathtub drain repair with expertise and caused the least sheetrock damage. It was difficult to replace the broken pipe and get to the upstairs drain, but together they made it a success.
Daniel did a great job and was very professional during his service call last week!
Rod and Josh did an awesome job taking care of my clogged sinks. Knowledgable, professional and great to work with - I really appreciated their help today and would highly recommend them and Plumbing Express!
Daniel was excellent. The work he did was simply superb. I highly recommend your company and hopefully Daniel will get more and more work
Dylan from Plumbing Express came over and replaced our garbage disposal for us. It was older, had a massive leak, and needed to be replaced. He did a great job and was in and out in about 30 minutes! I also asked him to check out a potential leak I had been hearing in my ceiling. He used a thermal camera to investigate and was very honest and upfront about what he found. Rather than immediately cutting into the drywall to confirm something uncertain, he explained that the sound could simply be pipes expanding and that opening the wall might be unnecessary. He recommended monitoring the area and waiting to see if a wet spot appears, which would clearly indicate an actual leak. I really appreciated that he didn’t try to upsell or push unnecessary work. Overall, great service and a great guy. They will definitely be our go-to plumbing service from now on.
Once again we had some problems under our kitchen sink so we called Plumbing Express who were able to get us on their schedule pretty quickly after these storms Tim Robinson came out to do the job. Tim has been to our house for a number of different plumbing problems. He is personable & professional. As usual he did a great job even though this particular problem turned out to be far more difficult than anyone had expected. As frustrating as it was, Tim worked through it until he finished the job. We can't thank him enough.
Anthony was very competent, professional and friendly. He answered all my questions throughly. Highly recommend!
Frequently Asked Questions About Home Repiping in Smyrna
We understand that you likely have many questions about the home repiping process. To help you feel confident in your decision, we have answered some of the most common questions our customers ask. If you have a question not covered here, please feel free to reach out to our team of home repiping experts in Smyrna, GA.
What are the sure signs I need a complete home repipe?
A professional plumbing inspection is the most definitive way to know, but key indicators include a noticeable loss of water pressure, water that appears rusty or discolored, recurring leaks in multiple areas of your home, and visible corrosion on any exposed pipes. If your Smyrna home is over 40 years old and has its original plumbing, it is highly probable that a repipe is needed.
How long will the repiping project take to complete?
At Plumbing Express, our process is highly efficient. A complete repipe for a standard single-family home is typically finished within just two to three days. Our team works diligently to minimize any disruption and get your water service fully restored as quickly as possible, providing a clear project timeline from the start.
Will my home be a construction zone during the repipe?
We take extensive precautions to protect your home and maintain a clean work environment. We use protective coverings for your floors and furniture and make only small, necessary openings in the drywall to access the pipes. Our turn-key service includes professional drywall repair and computer-matched paint finishing, ensuring your home is returned to its original condition.
What are the main advantages of repiping my home?
The benefits are significant. You will experience dramatically improved water pressure, enjoy clean and clear water, and eliminate the stress of constant leak repairs. A new plumbing system also increases your property value and provides long-term peace of mind. Our 30-year warranty on materials guarantees the durability and performance of your new system.
Should I choose PEX-A or CPVC for my new pipes?
Both PEX-A and CPVC are excellent, modern materials for plumbing systems. PEX-A is a flexible pipe that is resistant to freezing and can be installed with fewer joints, reducing potential leak points. CPVC is a rigid, durable plastic pipe known for its ability to handle high water temperatures. Our experts will explain the benefits of each and help you determine the best fit for your home and budget.
